The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department's "Texas Buffalo Soldier" Outdoor Educational Programs emphasize our multi-shared western heritage about the 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers, Vaqueros, Negro Cowboys, Frontier Women, Native Americans and other cultural groups in Texas during the 1800s. Ongoing research identifies minority citizens, sites and properties having historical significance. Genealogical and descendant documentation is also ongoing on the 9th Cavalry and 24th and 25th Infantry, the first Negro regiments to arrive in Texas after the Civil War.
Come mingle at Lake Arrowhead State Park and learn about life in the 1800's.
