Madonna has shut down a report claiming she filed to adopt two more children from Malawi.
“I am in Malawi to check on the children’s hospital in Blantyre and my other work with Raising Malawi and then heading home," the music icon told People magazine in a statement. "The rumors of an adoption process are untrue.”
The report originated from government spokesman Mlenga Mvula, who told The Associated Press on Wednesday (Jan. 25) that Madonna allegedly appeared before a High Court judge that day. Mvula said the singer would have to wait a week for a court decision on her adoption application.
Madonna already has four children, and two of which, David and Mercy, were adopted from Malawi in 2008 and 2009, respectively. In 2006, she founded the Raising Malawi charity, which works to help end poverty and hardship endured by orphans and underprivileged children in the southern African country.
